Task 1

Unit 10
Task 1

We’ve been tasked with creating a short overview of 3 jobs based around the industry of design; my first job I chose was the Games Designer.

Games Designer

The games designer as it stands as a name, runs through the process from concept to the finished product ( Gold ) and withholds many tasks throughout the creative process. This includes, creating and designing a games look and how it feels and plays, Animating characters and objects, creating audio, programming and localisation, testing and producing.
The Games designer has many specialist tasks to do within the industry, which also includes…
·         quality assurance tester;
·         programmer, with various specialisms such as network, engine, tool chain and artificial intelligence;
·         audio engineer;
·         artist, including concept artist, animator and 3D modeller;
·         producer;
·         editor;
·         designer; and
·         Special effects technician.

The games designer is a tough job as it also includes leading teams to complete deadline dates and can be quite stressful.

Mission Writer
A Scenario’s and mission writer’s job is fairly self-explanatory, the job summary for this is to come up with new and improved idea’s on how exactly a mission for a game should look like and be played, but most of the time, this includes having to take directions from the Lead artist and studio managers. They also have have to propose engaging stories and activities for the player to experience within the technical limitations of the software provided. In some cases they are also required to research the specific base of the game, to create new ideas from a researched influence. The tasks also includes helping fix level bugs upon them being found, and mission editing if it’s needed.  The job also includes having to work effectively in a team, as it’s a team effort to ensure the levels being made are fun and effective enough for the consumer.

AI Programmer

The AI programmer’s main job is to develop the logic of the games Artificial Intelligence for in Allies and enemies, it has recently involved into a specialized discipline as these tasks are probably the most challenging area of programming as the AI programmer needs to set up path finding, strategy and enemy tactic systems, its sophistication develops rapidly. Most games design companies dedicate on approximate 10-20 percent of their programming staff to AI. The work that goes into the AI is intense as the frame base needs to be constantly changed to manage the AI’s behaviour and settings. Most AI programmers need to work with C++ and this is one of the most intense programming languages to work with.
